While Waiting I Built Something
October 23, 2025
When I left my last job, I didn’t rush to find the next one. For the first time in years, I allowed myself to pause not because I lost direction, but because I wanted to understand it again.
People often think rest means doing nothing. But to me, rest meant building something slowly, quietly, without pressure — something that reminded me of who I am beyond deadlines and dashboards.
So, I started tinkering with an old STB device at home. At first, it was just curiosity, “Can this little box run a local server?” Then it became a project. A challenge. A mirror of how I think. Piece by piece, I built a small home server. Then I linked it with my VPS, automated scripts, and set up a Telegram bot to keep everything alive.
And in between those lines of code, I built something else — myself. I rebuilt patience, persistence, and that quiet satisfaction of learning again.
Most days, I’d have music playing in the background. Songs from a time when everything felt simpler: “Let Her Go”, “Pompeii”, “A Sky Full of Stars”, “Paradise”. They carried a kind of hope that didn’t shout. It just stayed, humming in the background, like courage that doesn’t need an audience.
Somewhere along the way, this little project turned into something real: my personal website. It wasn’t about showing off. It was about creating a space that felt like me. Simple, clear, and quietly alive.
Now, as I begin to look forward again. To new roles, new work, new people — I realize that this season of “waiting” wasn’t wasted. It was just another form of building. Just not on a company’s clock, well ~~ "on my own".
Maybe that’s what growth really looks like: not running faster, but learning how to move with calm purpose again.
